BeppoSAX observation of Cen X-4 in quiescence

چکیده
We report on a 61 ks BeppoSAX observation of the soft X–ray transient Cen X-4 during quiescence which allowed to study the source X–ray spectrum from ∼ 0.3 keV to ∼ 8 keV. A two-component spectral model was required, consisting of a black body with temperature of ∼ 0.1 keV and a power law with photon index ∼ 2. These values are compatible with earlier ASCA results indicating that Cen X-4 may be stable, within a factor of a few, over a 5 year baseline.

The Low Quiescent X-ray Luminosity of the Neutron Star Transient Xte J2123–058
We report on the first X-ray observations of the neutron star soft X-ray transient (SXT) XTE J2123–058 in quiescence, made by the Chandra X-ray Observatory and BeppoSAX, as well as contemporaneous optical observations. In 2002, the Chandra spectrum of XTE J2123–058 is consistent with a power-law model, or the combination of a blackbody plus a power-law, but it is not well-described by a pure bl...
متن کاملHard X – rays from Type II bursts of the Rapid Burster and its transition toward quiescence
We report on 4 BeppoSAX Target Of Opportunity observations of MXB 1730–335, the Rapid Burster (RB), made during the 1998 February–March outburst. In the first observation , approximately 20 days after the outburst peak, the X–ray light curve showed Type II bursts at a rate of 43 hr −1. Nine days later, during the second BeppoSAX pointing, only 5 Type II bursts were detected at the beginning of ...
متن کاملVery low luminosities from the accretion-driven millisecond X-ray pulsar SAX J1808.4–3658 during quiescence
We have observed the millisecond X-ray pulsar SAX J1808.4–3658 on three occasions during its 2000 outburst with the BeppoSAX satellite. The source was highly variable and erratic during this outburst, and by coincidence we obtained data only during times when the source had very low luminosities. During our observations, we detected four faint sources. The source closest to the position of SAX ...
متن کاملX-Ray Flux Decrease of the Accretion-Powered Millisecond Pulsar SAX J1808.4–3658 in Quiescence detected by ASCA
The accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsar, SAX J1808.4–3658, was observed in quiescence with ASCA in September 1999. We detected a dim X-ray source in the SIS data at the position consistent to SAX J1808.4–3658. The source count rate was (1.1 ± 0.4)× 10 cts s (0.5–5 keV) for a single SIS, which corresponds to (3 ± 1) × 10 ergs s cm if a power law energy spectrum of photon index 2 with low-...
متن کاملThe Off State of GX 339 – 4
We report BeppoSAX and optical observations of the black hole candidate GX339– 4 during its X-ray ‘off’ state in 1999. The broad-band (0.8–50 keV) X-ray emission can be fitted by a single power law with spectral index, α ∼ 1.6. The observed luminosity is 6.6 × 10 erg s in the 0.5–10 keV band, which is at the higher end of the flux distribution of black hole soft X-ray transients in quiescence, ...
